Since opening in May we have had several hundred visitors and many schools including the Green Flag Committee from the Holy Family in Tralee.  Based on our experience we have created a program aimed at local schools.

  • We divide each school party up into groups of 10 or less.
  • They each have a lecture on making your own electricity and composting/recycling.
  • Each group has a fully guided tour that includes everything from our organic gardens to the  solar panels.

A tour takes about 35 minutes and covers water turbines, wind turbines, solar panels, organic gardens, polytunnels, compost systems, compost toilets, self powered water pumps, reed beds, batteries and inverters.  Each lecture (one on recycling/composting and another on electricity production) takes about 30 minutes.  By the time the groups are organised it is best to allow 2 hours. We have sufficient space for around 30 students at a time.  Tours, explanations and educational materials can be tailored to your needs and we would welcome any enquiries/ suggestions you may have.

We hope that our facilities will be of use and interest to students at all levels of education from Primary upwards and feel that schools looking for a Green Flag award would certainly benefit as would students studying design, engineering, physics and technology.

If your school/college would like to visit our centre as part of an educational experience we would be pleased to offer a fully guided tour and two lectures for €5.00 per student.  Teachers and support staff are free.

We have recently been featured in Education, The Teacher and The Kerryman.

We are open for school visits all year  and suggest that students bring outdoor shoes, a coat and lunch. We do not ask for a deposit but full payment on the day is appreciated.  Should you be interested please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss your requirements.
